Windshield Replacement Tips for Baldwin County Drivers

A cracked or chipped windshield is more than an eyesore — it's a safety hazard. Whether you've just had your windshield replaced by Chambers Auto Glass or you're considering it, these tips will help you get the most out of your new glass and protect your investment.

1. Don't Rush Back Into Your Vehicle

After a windshield replacement, the urge to get back on the road is understandable — but patience pays off. The adhesive used to bond your new windshield needs time to cure properly. Chambers Auto Glass uses the industry-leading SikaTack Mach 30 adhesive, which has a drive-away time of just 30 minutes under normal conditions. However, we recommend waiting the full recommended time before driving at highway speeds.

2. Leave the Retention Tape On

After installation, your technician may place retention tape around the edges of the windshield. This tape holds the molding in place while the adhesive cures. Leave it on for at least 24 hours — removing it too soon can shift the seal before it's fully set.

3. Keep One Window Slightly Open

For the first 24 hours after replacement, leave a window cracked slightly open. This equalizes air pressure inside the vehicle and reduces stress on the new seal when you open and close doors.

4. Avoid Car Washes for 48 Hours

High-pressure water from automated car washes can compromise a fresh windshield seal. Hand washing is fine after 24 hours, but avoid car washes and pressure washers for at least 48 hours after installation.

5. Don't Remove the Interior Rearview Mirror Immediately

If your rearview mirror was removed during installation, wait until the adhesive has fully cured before reattaching it. Premature reattachment can stress the glass and the bond.

6. Watch for Leaks After Heavy Rain

After your first heavy rain, check the interior around the windshield for any signs of moisture. Chambers Auto Glass backs every installation with our No-Leak Guarantee — if you notice any leaks, call us immediately and we'll make it right at no charge.

7. Avoid Slamming Doors

For the first 24 hours, close your vehicle doors gently. The pressure wave from a slammed door can stress a fresh windshield seal before it has fully cured.
